Every Mains-qualifier has read the same books. The separator is how efficiently and analytically they present the same knowledge under time pressure.
3 minutes per mark, not per question
A 15-mark answer gets 13 minutes. Most aspirants spend 20+ minutes and sacrifice later questions. Time discipline is the most under-practised Mains skill.
Examiner reads 500+ copies per paper
Answers that stand out — clear structure, visible paragraphs, one good diagram, a strong conclusion — get remembered. Undifferentiated answers get average marks.
Non-negotiable practice principles
Write every answer by hand — typing does not train the mental-physical loop needed in the exam hall.
Practice with a timer from day one. A 10-mark answer must be over in 9 minutes — always.
Get at least 20 answers evaluated by a mentor or experienced evaluator — self-evaluation is not enough.
Review model answers only after writing your own — reading first kills original thinking.
Track your "per-mark" average and try to improve it by 0.5 marks per month.
Never write more than 3 practice answers in a single sitting without reviewing the previous one.
