What makes NEET PG different from MBBS exams
Breadth, not depth
NEET PG tests 19 subjects in 3.5 hours — 200 questions at ~63 seconds each. Unlike MBBS university exams that test one subject deeply, NEET PG rewards comprehensive recall across all subjects simultaneously. A 90th-percentile MBBS student who ignores 5 subjects will score lower than a 70th-percentile student who covers all 19 consistently.
Applied clinical reasoning
60%+ of questions are clinical vignettes — "A 45-year-old presents with..." — not direct factual recall. The ability to apply basic science knowledge to clinical scenarios is what separates top scorers. Pure memorisation without clinical integration consistently underperforms.
Image-based questions are decisive
20–25% of NEET PG questions include images (X-rays, ECGs, histology slides, clinical photographs). Candidates who practise image interpretation gain 40–50 marks over those who don't — in a competitive exam, this is often the difference between specialty tiers.
