What makes NEET UG different from JEE
NCERT is the syllabus
JEE rewards problem-solving beyond NCERT. NEET rewards NCERT mastery. 30–40% of NEET Biology questions are verbatim from NCERT text. A candidate who reads all 32 Biology NCERT chapters line-by-line, twice, scores 20–40 marks more than one who reads "notes" or "summaries" — even if the latter is academically stronger.
Biology is 50% of the paper
Botany + Zoology = 360/720 marks. Biology in NEET rewards systematic reading more than any other section. A student who masters NCERT Biology comprehensively can score 340+/360 — covering for a weaker Physics performance. Most NEET toppers build their rank primarily on Biology dominance, not Physics.
PYQ patterns are highly predictable
The same chapters appear in NEET year after year. Genetics, Human Physiology, Plant Physiology, Ecology, Organic Chemistry, and Mechanics collectively account for 60%+ of NEET marks annually. Candidates who do chapter-wise PYQ analysis for 10 years invest preparation time proportionally to actual marks — those who prepare uniformly waste time on low-yield areas.

Score targets — what you need for each outcome
700+ — AIIMS/Top government
AIR top 200–500. AIIMS New Delhi, JIPMER, MAMC Delhi. Requires near-perfect Biology (170+/180), strong Chemistry (150+), and decent Physics (100+). Achievable with 2+ years of dedicated preparation.
600–700 — Tier 1 government colleges
AIR 1,000–5,000. Good state government medical colleges and central universities. Requires Biology 155+/180, Chemistry 130+, Physics 100+. Target for serious one-year repeaters.
550–600 — State government MBBS
AIR 5,000–25,000. Government MBBS in most states at state quota. The minimum target for students who want to avoid private college fees. Achievable with one focused gap year.
400–550 — Private colleges / BDS
AIR 25,000–80,000. Government BDS, private MBBS at ₹10–25 lakh/year, government AYUSH colleges. Many students at this range benefit more from a focused repeat than joining private MBBS at high cost.
