SSC CGL Preparation Guides

30–40 lakh applicants, 15,000–25,000 vacancies. Speed and accuracy at Class 10 knowledge level — not depth — determines selection.

Why SSC CGL requires a different strategy from other exams

Speed over depth

Tier-1 gives 60 minutes for 100 questions — 36 seconds per question. The content is Class 10 level, but the speed requirement is elite-athlete level. Candidates who prepare at normal exam pace and then face the actual timing consistently fail despite knowing the material.

Negative marking calculus

-0.50 per wrong answer means 10 wrong answers cancel 5 correct ones. The optimal strategy is not maximum attempts but maximum accuracy on attempted questions. Candidates who skip genuinely uncertain questions consistently outscore those who attempt all 100 with moderate accuracy.

Post preference matters

SSC CGL has 40+ posts. Inspector Income Tax (field work, frequent transfers), AAO (desk job, office stability), and SI CBI (investigation work) are completely different careers. Your post preference order, combined with your rank and state preference, determines your actual posting — understand the posts before the exam.
