IELTS & TOEFL Preparation

A single test score determines whether you get into your target university abroad. Here is everything needed to prepare strategically — not just practise.

IELTS vs TOEFL — which should you take?

Take IELTS if you are...

  • Applying to UK, Australian, or Canadian universities
  • Applying for a UK or Australia skilled worker/PR visa
  • Uncomfortable with integrated computer tasks
  • Applying to institutions that specifically require IELTS

Take TOEFL if you are...

  • Applying primarily to US universities
  • Comfortable with integrated reading+listening tasks
  • Taking TOEFL at home via iBT Home Edition
  • Targeting Ivy League or top-10 US programs

If applying to both UK/Australia AND USA — take both tests. Most preparation overlaps significantly and the extra test fee (~INR 17,000) is small relative to the application cost.

Why language test scores are non-negotiable

Hard visa requirement

UK, Australia, and Canada student visas require a minimum language score as part of the application — no exceptions, no conditional waivers.

Scholarship eligibility

Chevening, Commonwealth, Australian Awards, and most merit scholarships specify a minimum band score (usually Band 7+ / 100+ TOEFL). Below the threshold = automatic rejection.

0.5 band = different university tier

The difference between Band 6.5 and Band 7.0 changes which universities you qualify for. An extra 8 weeks of preparation can shift the tier of institution you access.

Prepare with a mentor who scored Band 8+ on IELTS or 110+ on TOEFL

Weekly feedback on your practice tests, targeted work on your weak sections, and a preparation plan calibrated to your target score and timeline.
