NEET UG — Last 60 Days

May (typically first or second Sunday of May)

NEET is fundamentally an NCERT exam in Biology, a concept exam in Chemistry, and a calculation exam in Physics. In the last 60 days, these three demand completely different strategies. The biggest mistake is treating all three subjects the same way.

60-Day Phase Plan

1

Phase 1: NCERT Lock-In

Day 1–15

  • Complete a full NCERT Biology read-through (both Class 11 and 12) — cover every highlighted line, table, and diagram
  • For each Biology chapter, identify diagram-based questions from PYQ — NEET loves diagram questions
  • Chemistry: Physical Chemistry formula consolidation, Organic reaction product revision
  • Physics: Formula sheet consolidation — especially Optics, Thermodynamics, Modern Physics formulae
2

Phase 2: Mock + NCERT Interleaving

Day 16–40

  • One full mock every 4 days — Biology 90 questions in 45 minutes target
  • After each mock, open the NCERT for every Biology question you got wrong — the answer is almost always there
  • For Physics mock errors: identify if it was formula recall or concept application
  • Chemistry: memorize 15 named reactions completely (reagent → product, no partial memory)
3

Phase 3: PYQ Marathon

Day 41–55

  • 2019–2024 NEET PYQ: all 1080 questions must be attempted at least once
  • Any NEET PYQ question you got wrong → go back to NCERT line → read surrounding paragraph
  • Biology: master Assertion-Reason format — NEET's most common high-difficulty Biology type
  • Physics: any calculation question from PYQ should take < 3 minutes to solve by day 55
4

Phase 4: Consolidation & Confidence

Day 56–60

  • Light revision of Biology high-value chapters: Genetics, Ecology, Evolution, Reproduction
  • Quick organic chemistry review: alcohol, aldehyde, carboxylic acid conversions
  • No new mocks after day 58 — review your error log only
  • 8 hours of sleep every night — NEET tests recall speed and Biology recall degrades with sleep debt

Sample Daily Schedules

Mock Day (every 4th day)

08:00–11:20 — Full NEET mock (3h 20min, 720 marks)
11:20–11:45 — Break
11:45–13:30 — Biology error analysis: every wrong answer cross-referenced to NCERT
14:30–16:30 — Physics error analysis + formula review
16:30–18:00 — Chemistry error analysis
20:00–21:30 — Targeted NCERT re-read for weak Biology chapters from mock

Revision Day

07:00–09:30 — Biology: 2 chapters NCERT + 30 PYQ questions from those chapters
10:00–12:00 — Physics: concept revision + 20 calculation PYQs
13:30–15:30 — Chemistry: Organic (10 named reactions) + Inorganic (periodic trends revision)
16:00–18:00 — Chapter module test: 60 questions from studied chapters (timed)
20:00–21:30 — Error log review + next day plan

Subject-wise Strategy

Biology (Botany + Zoology)

Critical

90 questions, 360 marks — this is your bank. NCERT is the Bible. Every NEET Biology answer is in NCERT. Don't use reference books in last 60 days — only NCERT and past papers. Focus: Genetics, Ecology, Human Physiology, Plant Physiology, Evolution.

Avoid: Don't go beyond NCERT for Biology in this phase. Students who add coaching modules or HC Verma-level Biology supplements in the last 60 days typically do worse, not better.

Chemistry

High

Most balanced subject — split roughly 45/45/10 between Physical/Organic/Inorganic PYQ. Organic: named reactions only (15–20 reactions suffice). Physical: formula practice. Inorganic: NCERT tables, salt analysis patterns.

Avoid: Don't try to learn Inorganic exceptions from scratch. If your Inorganic is weak, memorize only NCERT facts — NEET Inorganic is 90%+ NCERT.

Physics

High

NEET Physics is calculation + concept. Most students fail here not from lack of knowledge but from slow calculation speed. Practice each formula type 20× until you can compute in 90 seconds. Focus: Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Optics, Modern Physics.

Avoid: Don't skip any Physics PYQ from 2019–2024. NEET Physics has noticeable PYQ repetition — same formulas, slightly different numbers. Knowing all PYQs is equivalent to knowing the exam pattern.

✓ Do This

  • NCERT Biology must be read minimum 3 full times in 60 days — once in Phase 1, once in Phase 2, once in Phase 3
  • Maintain a "high-yield Biology" list: Genetics ratios, Ecological terms, Hormones and their roles, Chromosome numbers
  • For every mock error in Biology, physically locate the NCERT line — this is the highest-leverage activity in NEET prep
  • Attempt all Biology PYQ from 2010–2024 at least once — 840 Biology questions is the most important data set
  • Track your Biology accuracy separately from Chemistry and Physics — Biology accuracy below 80% means more NCERT time

✗ Avoid This

  • Don't go beyond NCERT for Biology — coaching institute Biology supplements cause confusion in the final phase
  • Don't attempt random Biology MCQs from internet — use only NCERT-aligned questions and past papers
  • Don't neglect Physics to focus entirely on Biology — scoring 290+/360 in Biology means nothing if Physics is 40/180
  • Don't guess randomly — in NEET, each wrong answer costs 5 net marks (−1 + lost 4) on a 720-mark scale
  • Don't change your exam order in the last 2 weeks — if you've been doing Biology first, stick with it

Last-Week Checklist — tick every item before exam day

NCERT Biology Class 11 and 12 fully read — all diagrams labelled
Error log reviewed — all repeat errors from Phases 1–3 identified
Organic: 15 named reactions written from memory without prompts
Physics: all formula sheets reviewed in one sitting
Hall ticket and valid ID ready
Exam center route confirmed with estimated travel time
Sleep time locked to exam schedule: wake at 6 AM if exam is at 2 PM
Day-before plan: light revision only, no mocks, no new content

Common Mistakes in the Final Phase

Adding non-NCERT Biology material in the last 60 days

Impact: Confusion between coaching module facts and NCERT facts — both present in memory, neither reliable

Fix: For Biology, NCERT is the only source. Delete all coaching module PDFs if they conflict with NCERT wording.

Spending equal time on all 3 subjects

Impact: 50% of marks are Biology. Underinvesting in Biology while spending equal time on Physics is mathematically wrong strategy.

Fix: Biology: 50% of study time. Chemistry: 25%. Physics: 25%. Adjust if any subject has a specific weakness.

Not checking PYQ for every wrong mock answer

Impact: NEET repeats conceptual patterns. Every wrong answer has a corresponding NCERT line + likely a PYQ with a similar question.

Fix: For every wrong Biology answer: (1) find the NCERT line, (2) find a PYQ with the same concept. This takes 5 minutes per question but builds pattern recognition.

Aiming for 720 instead of 650+

Impact: Pursuing perfect scores leads to stress and time inefficiency. Government MBBS seats close at 580–620 in most states.

Fix: Set a realistic target: 620–650 for good government MBBS. This requires Biology 280+/360 + Chemistry 120+/180 + Physics 80+/180 — all achievable in 60 days.

Frequently Asked Questions

I'm at 480/720 in mocks. Can I reach 600 in 60 days?

A 120-mark improvement is possible but requires identifying exactly where those marks are being lost. At 480, most gaps are in Biology recall (NCERT-based) and Physics calculation errors. Fix: 3 NCERT Biology reads in 60 days + 20 timed Physics mock sections with error analysis. Many candidates move from 480 to 580+ in 60 days with this approach.

Should I prioritize Biology chapters or Organic Chemistry in the last 60 days?

Biology first, every time. 90 questions (360 marks) vs Organic Chemistry's 20–25 questions (80–100 marks). Per-hour return on Biology NCERT study is 3–4× higher than on Organic Chemistry. Complete your Biology NCERT cycle before allocating extra time to Organic.

My Physics score is consistently 60/180. Can I fix this in 60 days?

60/180 (33%) in Physics with 90 days left is salvageable. With 60 days, target 90/180 (50%) — enough to combine with Biology 280+ for a competitive total. Focus: Mechanics (Newton's laws, energy, fluid) + Optics + Modern Physics. These 3 areas give 60–70% of NEET Physics marks. Forget Electromagnetic Induction if it's a complete blackout — triage.

I have board exams alongside NEET preparation in these 60 days. How do I manage?

Board-NEET overlap is a reality for Class 12 students. The good news: NEET Biology = NCERT Biology = board preparation. Studying one advances both. For Physics and Chemistry, NCERT is also the board syllabus. The real risk is board exam anxiety reducing NEET prep hours — create a fixed 3–4 hour NEET block that is protected even during board study weeks.
