Preparation strategy

1Master Karnataka PUC II textbooks first — KCET tests exactly this syllabus, not JEE extensions.
2Since there is no negative marking, never leave a question blank — educated guesses add up.
3Attempt all past KCET papers from 2015 onwards; question patterns are highly predictable.
4Focus on scoring full marks in Chemistry — it is the most straightforward subject in KCET.
5Board marks contribute 50% to your rank — never sacrifice board preparation for KCET coaching.
6Aim to complete each paper in 1 hour 45 minutes, leaving 15 minutes for review.

Frequently asked questions

Can candidates from other states appear for KCET?

No. KCET is exclusively for candidates who have studied in Karnataka schools for the last 7 years OR whose parent is a Karnataka state government employee.

Is KCET sufficient for top Karnataka colleges or do I need JEE Main?

KCET is sufficient for most Karnataka colleges. However, a few top colleges like NIT Surathkal (state quota) and NITK accept both JEE Main and KCET ranks. For highest-rated private colleges like RVCE, KCET rank is the primary criterion.

How are board marks weighted in KCET rank?

Your final rank is based on: 50% weightage to KCET score (scaled to 100) + 50% weightage to Class 12 board marks in PCM (scaled to 100). Students with identical KCET scores are differentiated by board marks.
