Karnataka • Karnataka Examinations Authority
Gateway to top Karnataka engineering colleges including RVCE, MSRIT, BIT Bangalore, and NIT Surathkal (state quota). 60 questions each in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, all from Karnataka PUC II syllabus — primarily NCERT-aligned.

MHT-CET
Maharashtra • State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra
Maharashtra's primary engineering entrance covering Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Conducted in multiple sessions (like JEE Main) with score normalisation. Separate PCB paper for pharmacy/medical courses. Accepted by most Maharashtra engineering colleges including College of Engineering Pune (COEP) and VJTI.

WBJEE
West Bengal • West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board
West Bengal's state entrance for Jadavpur University, IIEST Shibpur, and top private colleges. Unique in using a three-category question format with different marking schemes — one of the harder state exams conceptually, particularly in Mathematics.

TS EAMCET
Telangana • Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University
Telangana's engineering and agriculture entrance. Covers Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in a single 3-hour session. One of the more straightforward state exams in terms of question difficulty — high scorers regularly achieve 145+/160. The differentiator at top colleges is your rank, which is computed with 75% EAMCET + 25% Intermediate board marks.

Why state exams deserve serious attention
More seats than JEE combined
KCET + MHT-CET + WBJEE + TS EAMCET together offer 3.5 lakh+ engineering seats. JEE Main qualifies candidates for about 1.5 lakh NIT/IIIT seats. The sheer volume is larger.
Different strategy required
State exams test state board syllabi, often have no negative marking, and weight board marks in rank calculation. JEE preparation alone is not a substitute.
Top institutions accessible
Jadavpur University (WBJEE), COEP Pune (MHT-CET), RVCE Bangalore (KCET), and JNTU Hyderabad (TS EAMCET) are legitimate career-launching institutions.
