Common Mistakes to Avoid

Not clearing sectional cutoffs: scoring 180/200 overall but failing one section disqualifies you completely

Skipping banking awareness: this section has the highest ROI — 15 days of focused prep can add 20+ marks

Attempting all questions in Prelims: 2+ wrong answers cancel 1 correct; strategic skipping beats raw attempts

Not analysing mock tests: candidates who take 30 mocks without reviewing errors plateau; review every mock thoroughly

Ignoring the descriptive paper: essay + letter writing in Mains is not checked separately but matters in borderline cases

Preparing for only one bank: IBPS PO, SBI PO, and RBI exams have 60-70% syllabus overlap — prepare simultaneously

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the IBPS PO salary after joining?

Basic pay starts at ₹23,700 with allowances making the total in-hand approximately ₹52,000–₹58,000 per month in metro cities, including DA, HRA, Special Allowance, and Transport Allowance. Total CTC including perks is ₹8–10 lakh/year at entry level.

Can I apply for IBPS PO without work experience?

Yes. IBPS PO requires only graduation — no prior experience is needed. Fresh graduates are the primary candidates. However, some IBPS SO (Specialist Officer) posts require specific work experience.

How many attempts are there in IBPS PO?

There is no official attempt limit for IBPS PO, unlike UPSC. You can appear each year the notification is released, as long as you are within the age limit. Age relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC.

Is the IBPS PO interview very competitive?

The interview is the final filter. Typically 3–5 candidates are called per vacancy (post-mains). The panel evaluates banking knowledge, situational judgment, and communication. A score above 60/100 is generally considered good.

What is the difference between IBPS PO and SBI PO?

SBI PO is conducted by SBI independently (not IBPS) for SBI alone, typically has higher competition (25+ lakh applicants), slightly better pay scale, and a Group Discussion round instead of a panel interview. The exam pattern is similar. SBI is considered marginally more prestigious for career growth.

Prepare with a mentor who has cleared IBPS PO

A banking exam mentor can show you exactly which questions to skip, how to manage sectional cutoffs, and what Banking Awareness topics are actually tested — not the ones that appear in generic study plans.
