How to apply it — step by step

Choose a concept you want to understand (e.g., "Bernoulli's Principle").

Write the concept's name at the top of a blank page.

Explain the concept in simple language, as if teaching a 10-year-old. No jargon.

Whenever you cannot explain something simply, go back to your textbook/notes.

Fill the gap, then return to your simple explanation and complete it.

Simplify further — if it still sounds complicated, the understanding is incomplete.
The science behind it
The Feynman Technique is a specific application of the "generation effect" and "elaborative interrogation" — cognitive strategies that improve comprehension by forcing learners to produce rather than receive information. Feynman himself used this method to master topics across multiple scientific disciplines.
Most common mistake
Using technical vocabulary in the explanation and convincing yourself you understand. If you cannot replace the jargon with plain language, the understanding is still on the surface.
Exam-specific application
For JEE: explain why a derivation works, not just how it works. For NEET: explain what goes wrong in a disease at the cellular level in plain terms. For UPSC: explain a government scheme to a non-economist.
